Canyon Ridge Perch's Fuji guide was incredibly detailed. The packing list alone saved me from serious mistakes. I summited on my first attempt — couldn't have done it without this resource.
The Kumano Kodo route guide had information I simply could not find anywhere else — the location of rest huts, water sources, and even which guesthouses spoke English. Absolutely invaluable.
I used the gear shop recommendations for my Daisetsuzan traverse and every single item performed flawlessly. The boot advice alone was worth the visit. Will return before every Japan trip.

When is the best time to hike in Japan?
Spring (April–May) and autumn (October–November) offer the most rewarding conditions across most of Japan. Alpine routes in the Japan Alps are best accessed July–September. Hokkaido's highlands peak in July–August. Always check seasonal closures before planning.
Do I need a permit to climb Mount Fuji?
From 2024, Yamanashi Prefecture introduced a ¥2,000 conservation fee per person on the Yoshida Trail, along with a daily cap on climbers. Some trails may require advance booking during peak season (July–August). Our guides include up-to-date permit information.
Are trails well-marked for non-Japanese speakers?
Major routes like Fuji-san and the Kumano Kodo have English signage throughout. More remote trails may rely on Japanese-only signage. We recommend downloading our offline PDF maps before leaving mobile coverage.
Can beginners hike in Japan?
Absolutely. Japan has a wide range of beginner-friendly trails, including forest walks in Yakushima, gentle highland strolls in Nasu, and the easier sections of the Tokai Nature Trail. Our difficulty ratings clearly flag suitable routes for all experience levels.
What gear do I need for Japanese mountain hiking?
Layered clothing, waterproof boots, a rain shell, and a 25–35 litre pack are essentials. Higher routes require crampons in early season. Browse our gear shop for curated recommendations tested specifically on Japanese terrain.

When Sarah from Singapore wanted to summit Mount Fuji but had zero trekking experience, she turned to Canyon Ridge Perch. Here is what happened next.
Sarah's story: "I'd never hiked before, but I was determined to climb Fuji. Canyon Ridge Perch's step-by-step guide, gear recommendations, and the detailed elevation profile gave me the confidence I needed. The community forum connected me with other first-timers, and I made friends who summited with me. Eight months later, I've now hiked the Kumano Kodo, Daisetsuzan, and I'm planning my first alpine camping trip in the Japan Alps. This community changed everything."
